At Alchemist, we strive to do what is best for our Mother by choosing sustainable fabrics as canvases for our designs. We also support environmental causes and cycling organizations through donations, advocacy, and participation.
"Green" Piece:
100% Organic Cotton: Organic cotton is grown without herbicides, pesticides or GMO’s. Its cultivation and dyeing process must conform to organic processing standards.
Transitional Organic Cotton: It takes farmers three years to transition from traditionally farmed to organically farmed crops, according to strict regulations. During this period of time it can be very difficult to make a livBetter for you and the earthing. They take on higher production expenses to grow cotton in an organic fashion, but without a certified organic yield. By using this transitional organic cotton, we hope to encourage these forward-thinking farmers to continue their pursuit of a better planet for all.
Bamboo: Super-soft as a material, bamboo is a renewable resource that can be very beneficial to the environment as a crop. It actually minimizes CO2 gases and generates up to 35% more oxygen than equivalent stands of trees. It also minimizes soil erosion and can grow back within 3-5 years of being harvested.
Phthalate-free Inks: Phthalate is a chemical added to plastics to soften them and increase their flexibility. The majority of current screen printing utilizes it. However, animal studies have demonstrated adverse effects on hormone regulation and birth defects. Though more costly, we utilize the Wilflex Epic® line of phthalate-free inks to print our shirts. Better for you and for the earth!
Recycled, Seeded Hang Tags: Made from 100% post-consumer paper and printed with soy-based inks and organic pigments, our hang tags are the latest in eco-bling! Just soak the tags overnight in water, cover with a thin layer of soil, and enjoy a mix of annual an
d perennial wildflowers straight from the paper! Plus, they are made locally, within a short ride from the office.
Walk Your Talk!! All aspects of shirt production in Boulder happen within a few miles of each other, making it easy to support local businesses and easy for us to ride our bikes to meetings and on errands. Net carbon footprint for Alchemist in-town transportation = rubber burned on the Boulder bike trail!
Sharing the Love: Alchemist donates a portion of proceeds from our Cycling Kits and Wool Jerseys to environmental causes and non-profit cycling organizations.
Team Green Machine: A group of riders who are like-minded in their views of the environment and cycling. Our rider code includes: Leave no Trace, Recycle, and Ride Nice.
Renewable Energy: Alchemist is powered by a combination of Photovoltaic Solar Panels and wind energy offsets.
